Mini 14 Accuracy

I shot about 1000 rounds of 5.56 without any problems

Me too. SS Ranch eats it fine, brass flies for miles. Forgot this one day and the hood of my truck took a beating.

Accuracy? 2 to 4 to WTF? MOA @ 100 yds depending on how hot the barrel.

These things were never intended to be needle threaders. Still fun and simple though.

Thanks for the tip on the scope rings - did have one loosen but attributed to having been too gentle with the torque wrench (usually err on the side of less rather than more torque and never had an issue before - rest are all open sights or bolt rifles though).

Ordered an adjustable gas block, should help with knocking over the shooters in adjacent slots with flying brass and hopefully reduce the shock sent through the receiver / rings (after it shot sub MOA at 100m first time out figured worthwhile playing with it a little more). Trigger may receive some attention too. Not a bad feel, just a little firm.

Love how it field strips too.

I fired a fellow club member's Mini-14 Target a while back. I shot 4 5 shot 1"(ish) groups at 100m with 55 grain PMC. I think that is plenty accurate. But of course you aren't talking about the Target model...

I shot a newer production ranch rifle not too long ago that AVERAGED 1.25" at 100 yds with win 40gr. ballistic silver tips. 3 shot groups. Some individual groups well under .75". All in all I was very impressed.

I too load the Nosler 69 bthp match bullets over BLC2. Have nailed beavers out to 300 meters. My mini is the newer heavier tapered barrelled version. Love it. Would buy another.

The Mini is a good gun. Decent accuracy, very reliable and versatile...

It also has almost as many aftermarket accessories available for it as the 10/22.

I've owned mini 14 rifles since the early 1980's. I always dumped them because I expected better accuracy. A while back I bought another, hoping that THIS TIME I would get a shooter. It wasn't. However, before I added it to the procession of dumped mini 14s I owned, I happened upon a website that was filled with accurizing tips. I'm glad I held onto that rifle, because I've changed it from 4" groups at 100 yards to under 1".

I suggest anyone who wants to accurize his Mini whatever model, go to Perfect Union website. There is a pile of good information.
