Mini 14 and M14

I may be incorrect on this one, but I believe the Mini-14 design is loosely based on the M14 (very similar trigger group, rotating bolt etc) but is scaled down in size, hence the name mini-14.

You're right. Of course, also scaled down from .308 to .223.

They're similar in design but totally different guns. Think like those internet girls you see on plentyoffish, they look similar to real girls that you meet downtown, but once you hook up with one it becomes very clear that you've somehow lost a bet.

I mean so what if my profile picture has my ex-girlfriend in it, and it's 6 years old. Most of the time girls don't respond, but when they do it's like whoa, hold the line... wait never hold the line, because love is on the line here

Then all the sudden they want to quit their jobs and move in with you, meanwhile the dirty dishes are getting moldy. Ugh I hate that :(

Well, I own both, and have pulled apart both. I guess the first thing is "looks". The bolt, receiver, op rod sorta look the same. Sorta.

The bolt, if we look closely on an mini-14 does not have a roller. The M14 had a gas piston, which pushes against the op rod (from the gas). The mini has a direct system, wherein the gas pushes against the op rod itself. The receiver looks like the M14, particularly the "squared" rear.

On the mini, the stock ends at the gas block. The M14 has the gas block assembly, with the piston.

Both are cool! Both are sturdy, reliable rifles. :D

Whoa let's slow down here a bit and look at some facts. The mini-14 isn't accurate or easy to scope. The factory irons suck and it should have died years ago along with Hannibal

I mean I love it when a plan comes together, but nothing ever seems to work when a mini-14 is involved, unless you're with Mr. T

Can't fly a tank fool!

I really must read more of your posts! Highly entertaining! :D

PS: Moldy dishes are not cool..... I used to pay my niece $20 bucks every time and supply the masks when I needed my dishes done.... :(

:bangHead:

You know...that is your opinion. See my rifle in the pic above? Well it loves to shoot nosler 55 gr (win 748 and mag primers) into 1.5" at 100 yards consistent. About 2.5" at 200 and about 4" at 300. The factory irons are ok as a backup. They are the easiest rifle in the world to scope. Again, these are our opinions. Just because your experience with one is not positive, does not mean they are all like that. My rifle does not like the cheaper ammo, such as the win 45 gr white box. They are a little more inconsistent. The Win 55 gr FMJ are not too bad...about 2" at 100 yards.

Maybe you flinch alot...I dunno. But please, don't EVER rate your "facts" as the only fact to the discredit of all others. I respect your opinion, but don't agree with it either.

They use the familiar garand bolt system, but they use different gas systems. The M14 uses a short stroke self regulating gas piston, while the mini 14 uses a "fixed piston, moving cylinder" style of gas system.

I have both, and my Mini 14 is my most favorite rifle from my collection, my M14 my second favorite. Both are dead reliable.

Oh and ignore the snooty AR 15/ak 47 fans. The newer Mini 14s have improved a lot since their introduction to the civilian market in 1974.

In fact, much of the whining I have seen about them is from the mall ninja crowd, and that's mainly because the mini 14 doesn't have standard provisions for those useless quad picatinny rails so they can mount all their "tactical" junk on it.

Well Said! Bravo! :D
