Hi,

I am looking at a used mini-14 right now. the owner says it has had between 800 and 900 rounds through it. Is this alot? Should it still shoot pretty well? Its in .223, not 6.8.

At 800-900 rounds that mini is just broken in. No worries mate, I've seen mini's with 25,000-30,000 round counts. You would think they were all shot out but nope, still going strong.

If it is in it's original configuration - and has not been modified - Ruger will stand behind it. Meaning Ruger (or Ruger's warranty agent) will re-barrel it, if it should need a new barrel.

Provided that it has not been modified.

The question isn't so much how many rounds the barrel has seen as it is how it was shot. There is a tendency for some to shoot a gas gun with wild abandon. A barrel that is heated up every time it's fired will loose it's accuracy edge much quicker than a barrel that is allowed time to cool between shots, or at least between strings.

I love my mini 14

:D I have had a mini in 223 for about 25 years. its an early one a 180 series I think. I think there was about 1000 rounds put thru it befor I got it and I know that it has over 10,000 rounds now. Just got back from the range a couple of hours ago and I was hitting metal plates at 150 + yards with peep sights not bad for the old boy and my eye sight isn't that good any more, and let me tell you in 25 years some of those rounds have gone down the pipe pretty darn quick!!!!!!!!!!!!;) it does get warm from time to time!!!

I had a mini that had 1000's of rounds through it and many in quick fashion causing the barrel to get extremely hot. Had it for 10 or 11 years and shot coyotes and gophers with it ALL THE TIME. The barrel still looked great the day I sold it. The barrel will probably outlast you.

I've shot the same Mini14 since I was 6 years old and stopped shooting it last year as grandpa took it back. I'm 23 now.

Has not worn out and has been just blasted to hell and back.

RUGER LAST.

I just bought one off the EE with only 200 rounds through it. Should be getting it tomorrow. Looking forward to it. I have 1000 rounds of .223 surplus waiting to be used.
