Mini 14 black gun build

Here's mine...

I just traded in a bunch of my mini-14GB conversions to the boys at The Calgary Shooting Centre and The Shooting Edge (both site sponsors). All of the guns were equipped with my custom made bayo-lug/sight block (with 0.062 NM SEI front sights) and most of them have ultimak rails already installed. I also supplied them with a pile of factory 5/20 mags:

The bulk of the guns are stainless synthetic however there is the odd blued/wooden one too. There are a couple of 6.8 SPC guns as well.

Cheers,

Brobee

Bell & Carlson Stock, pillar bedded, heavier barrel.
Friend of mine has a mini14 done up with at least that. That'd be where I'd start.

Typically, when I see the mini14 replacement stocks, the shoulder stock is lower (like on an AK-47). The one you have is unusual. And you tell us what stock you are using?

It's a Troy Modular Chassis System (MCS), made by the same company which makes top of the line parts for the AR and M14. That stock is high grade and machined out of aluminum, just like the MCS made for the M14. It will accept any AR furniture and the thing is covered in rails, perfect for optics mounting, including ACOGs.

This guy has a top of the line stock on his Mini.

To each their own, but I fail to see the utility in making an apple out of an orange. If you want an AR look alike, why not just buy an AR?

I love the Mini for being a small, lightweight, fairly inoffensive looking little carbine, that does 90% of what a black rifle does.

But... It takes all kinds!

Because an AR is restricted... and a Mini 14 is not?

Anyway, I wish they would make something like that mini 14 black gun, except without the pistol grip... kind of like the Kel Tec su-16. Am I the only one that prefers not to have a pistol grip on a rifle?

XCR, Swiss, AR180...

The point I was trying tomake, is that the Mini is NOT one of the "military looking" rifles - Why spend $1000 to buy it, then $500 to make it look like something it isn't, when you could buy a "military looking" rifle for $1500 in the first place?

Fly at it if you like - I just don't get it!

If you can find me a new Swiss or XCR for $1500 I'll buy it right now.

I figure $800ish for the stainless gun, $150 on a stock, misc parts another $250 and I'm at around $1200 which is about 1/2 an XCR and 1/3 a Swiss.

None those options you listed off are even close to $1500

XCR is ~$2300 before taxes/shipping/accessories
Swiss is ~$3000 before taxes/shipping/accessories
Don't know the cost of a AR180 but it can only be found on the EE with at least 5 other gunnutz looking for a AR180.

I think the OP is trying to make the best out of a Mini 14 since its comparatively cheap, widely avaiable, non-restricted, has aftermarket products, and i imagine since its a semi-auto .223. Not very many rifles in canada can meet all of those criteria.

Staying on track, i would agree with SoLDneR and wait for the Sparta stock to come out since i think it'll be really interesting to see.

(Damn... Richard Cranium beat me to it)

Cz sporter? Its 223 and i saw for 899$... I dint go that route for my unrestricted 223,i went with the mini for 2 reasone first its too expensive to mont a scope on the cz and I found a new mini stainless for 699$.

But i must add that I still like my cz 858 tac 2 better then my mini

I just like to tinker with guns its my new found hobby and if I could own Non-Res $1500 AR I'll be the first in line to buy one.

I got 2 mini-14s one is old classic and the one you see on the picture is the new one which cost me $760+sh+tx from Wolverine Supp and from shooting both of them I noticed that new one is more balanced (very tight fit into the chassis),it has much less recoil, shoots slightly better than synthetic stock.
I also agree that it is expensive to suit it up ,total cost will run me into: +1700$ after
I'm done with it . By the way some guys here spend up to $5000 on sl8 upgrades and other guns and there is nothing wrong with that.
