MIni 14 builds??

I got the ATI stock for my mini 30. I'm not very impressed with it, there seems to be alot of wobble in the buttstock. I think i'll change to the Archangel Sparta stock once it comes out.

I have the same ATI foldable stock. There is lots of woble. It will be the Sparta kit, if those are not available, then sage it is.

Why oh why did SAGE put an AR telestock on their Mini chassis :bangHead:

One day we'll look back at telestocks on guns other than AR's as a very bad fad... Side folder and I'd have that SAGE tomorrow.

My 581 series Mini-30 wears a stainless Ruger factory folder. Top shelf stock, rigid, works great.

I had my Mini-14 customized by a smith in Calgary. I had a medium contour Gaillard barrel, ASI gas block, hand guard and Laminated Target stock. The smith bedded the stock, chambered and fitted the barrel and lightened the trigger. Topped it off with a fixed 10X tactical mil-dot scope.Looks great. Took abit to get it to shoot though, seems the barrel needs to be floated but with the stock parts bedded into the stock that's a no go, so I had to experiment with fore-end pressure which ultimately worked although not convienent for stripping down to clean as it requires confirmation shots for pressure. It still has a oddity I can't eliminate, 1st shot is 11/2" low and 11/2" left of the main group which I adjust for with the scope. With that it groups at .80 so far with 69 gr Match kings at 2950 FPS. I've had coyote kills out to 365 Lasered. I've yet to learn how to post pic's, soon!

:agree:

I love the factory folder. Definitely hurt the old pocketbook when I found one to put on my Mini, but in my opinion, it was worth every penny.

WOHOO my mini showed up today. I am off to break her in tomorrow.

On an accurracy note,on Gunblast there is a review for the 6.8 and he got it to shot repeated 3/4" groups at 100 yards with remmington target ammo.

Sounds like worthwhile mods.

Best looking Mini 14 I have ever seen. Just got mine in yesterday and bought 2 factory Ruger 20 round mags today for it. I also ordered a pic rail from Brownells for my Vortex Sparc. Next buy is going to be that Sage stock...looks super ###y.

Cheers!!

I like the Tapco over the butler creek, if I wanted to spend money I would be getting the the Troy Industries Chasis, I don't know if I like the Sparta that much, Id have to feel it out.

How do you feel the aftermarket stocks have affected accuracy? I am a little hesitant to purchase, but very interested. I was pretty well sold on the ATI strikeforce until reading on here that they have a powerful wiggle. Has anyone got anything to say about the TAPCO telescoping or the Choate folding?

Actually it's quite easy to put a folder on a Sage. I did it on one of the M14s I had. I used an ACE folding stock mechanism, their AR adapter and what ACE used to call a Pig Nose.

Because my rifle wasn't a shorty it wasn't really practical from a handling standpoint except for storing it, but it did look cool.:D

I'm thinking about getting a Mini next year and I'll probably go the Sage folder route.

These pics aren't meant to hijack the thread just to show what a Sage folder looks like.

Also, Ill probably go with a Skeleton stock on the Mini rather than a telescoping stock.

Well I got my red field flat black 3-9x40 scope today and just have to decide if I should to with regular rings or with a rear scope rail and rings. Any thoughts guys?

I bought the same scope a couple years ago and its been great so far. I would go with a rail especially if the scope is going to be on and off constantly.

Very nice set up!

Where oh where did you find that? I want one sooooo bad !

Bought it from Armco 2 years ago. They do come up on the secondhand market from time to time (I've seen quite a few pop up on the EE), but they cost an arm and a leg. Mine cost $300, and she definitely wasn't in pristine condition. They're very well built (even worth the premium price, IMO), but to a lot of people, the price of admission is way too steep.
