NOTE: I had to use a spent casing to reproduce this malfunction. Normally, the stovepiped round is a fresh cart stripped from the mag, but ends up like this. Usually the final round in the mag.

Seems to be a mag failure. Previous casing ejects, and then this occurs with the freshly stripped cart.

Today, it occurred with a 10 round pinned ProMag. I'm going to have to watch this long term.

Unless others have seen this? Can anyone nail down the cause?

I'm willing to bet I'm not too helpful as I don't have mini experience, but with a bolt .22 on the weekend I was having all sorts of weird issues. Turns out the only mag I have for it has opened up just slightly in the darn near 20 years I've owned it. Even with odd feeds the true reason didn't show up until it started completely emptying itself in a spectacular lead and brass tinged waterfall. I bent the feed lips in and it's golden.

Now that idea only works if it's the same magazine usually doing it. I know I'm not nailing it down, but maybe reaffirming your suspicion.

I have a Mini 30 and it does the exact same thing. I have always suspected the mags were at fault, but have never really tracked it down. I have two 5 round Ruger mags and it does it with both of them. I haven't tried any other mags to confirm if this is the issue. Hopefully somebody out there has the answer to this question.

I had the same problem with my M14 using some cheap Korean made mags that are pinned at 5. I ended up bending the right feed lip near the front (when viewed from behind) down just a tiny bit. I took them out today and they ran fine. However I only put 10 rounds through each.
Hope that might help

Just FYI, I have 3 factory 5 rounders and 1 ten rounder... Happened a few times yesterday and once today, yesterday I wasn't paying attention to which mags cause it though....

Where can I buy 20/5 mini mags?!?! :p

ive been buying my mags through hi-caps in the stated and they seem to be feeding well. my 5/30 round mags jammed like that but i just bent the lips and all works fine now
