Mini 14 only jams with handloads?

My Mini 14 works great with anything I put in it... except handloads. About 1 out of 5 handloaded rounds will only go "click" when you pull the trigger. Strange part is, I can't even see where the firing pin *tried* to strike the primer? Factory loads gets a good strike and are thrown 5 feet from the rifle.

Has anyone else experienced this with this rifle?

FYI, I am using a multitude of commercial .223 brass. I full-length size the brass with a LEE kit, trim to within specs. I am shooting 55gr FMJ in front of 23 grains of IMR3031. Does very well in my Ruger M77 but just jams in my Mini 14.

Any ideas what could be going wrong?

I recently seen this with a batch of 223 reloads for my AR. Upon further inspection I found what looked like the shoulders not being pushed back far enough. The case fit in the case gauge but was just a hair short at the neck and just a hair above where the case head or rim would normally sit flush. Some slight adjustment to my resizing die resolved the issue. I re-ran them though the corrected die setup and they were spot on.

sounds like a sucky issue, I had the same issue with a Lee Enfield where my handloaded round's primers were seated a *tad* to deep. Light primer strikes suck, it's only made worse with too deeply seated primers. Try to seat the primers less and ream the primer pockets less.

Tryed to order this from Midway.
But can't enter a Canada address.

Order from Relaible or Prophet River or any of the many other site sponsors closer to you.
They either will have them in stock or can get them for you.
And the best part is your supporting a Canadian Retailer who is trying to support you and your sport.
Just a side note, I have no idea if this is going to correct your issue with jaming, but small base dies are generally used in auto loaders, so here hoping it works.
