Mini 14 Ranch rifle scope/setup

Has anyone come up with a decent setup for a Mini 14? The check weld isn't so hot with the supplied rings thats for sure. If you add a rail I'm sure it will make things worse. I was hoping for a 1-4 power setup for coyotes. It gets tough to see them when dusk comes. All shots are inside of 100 yards so I don't need much power.

I bought a Weigand rail from High Caliber Services, check the dealer network, to replace the awful Ruger rings. I have about 150 rounds with it on, it did come loose the first time out just needed more Loctite. It sits pretty low, and with low rings I would say it’s about the same height as the Ruger rings.

Interesting. What scope are you using?

I did have a tasco varmit 6-24x42 scope in the ruger rings, but the very small recoil would shift zero. Currently i have a Vortex Strikefire red dot installed on the rail and i have about the same 50 yard grouping. The Strikefire has a 2x magnifier but i havent tried that out yet. I will be installing a Leupold VX-1 3-9x40 to compare against the red dot.

I was thinking of trying Bushnell AR Optics Drop Zone-223 Reticle scope.

I have an "Ultimak" scout rail. Bolts to the gas block and secures to the barrel. Holds very tight. I have an aimpoint mounted but I think I'd be a nice setup with a long eye relief scout scope.
