Hey all
I have a Ruger ranch rifle (built in buffer) with an adjustable gas block to lessen the recoil. Right now I have a Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40 on it and it has fired about 100 rounds with this setup. I am wondering if the gun will destroy this scope, I just bought a new .22 and am considering putting the Trophy on it before it gets wrecked, and then buying a Bushnell 3200 series scope for the mini.

So lets hear your opinions,
Will the Trophy get wrecked?
Will a 3200 get wrecked?
Should I just put a rimfire scope on my .22 and forget this idea?
Am I crazy to put a more expensive scope in harms way on a plinker?

And no I do not want to put anything more expensive than a 3200 on my mini!!!

i'm using a compact 4x burris on my mini 30. the larger the scope the more recoil damage. the higher you mnt it and the more it weighs has effect on the scope. the action pounds the glass fairly hard for the amount of recoil the cartrige has. i notice a lot of difference with 150 grn loads in m mini 30.

My Mini 14 killed the legend 2x7 I had on it. The reticle detached at the center. Bushnell gave me a new one no questions asked though. :D

I had the same concerns when I picked up a target mini. I decided to go cheap and put a 2.5 x 10 Tasco target on it. The stupid thing is still alive after 500 rounds.

Is 500 a lot? It's only a day's shooting in a good gopher patch, or 1/2 day in a great one.

Yeah I know what your mean, but with that kind of shooting a mini would not be my go to gun. These things cycle like a jackhammer and even with
a .040 hole in the gas sleeve, ejection is still 20 feet. However it is my go to
gun for a 250 yard calling rifle and 500 rounds will go a long way with that purpose in mind.

I've tried using .223 autoloaders for calling gun, but keep reverting to a 22/250 or 22/243 Middlested turn bolt. For my calling the extra range and accuracy kills more coyotes for me than any amount of rapid fire. I could see an application for the M14 Target for gophers though, and I've been trying to find an exuse to buy one. :D The other couple minis I had didn't shoot well enough to deserve a scope, truth to be told, but one did shake a cheap Bushnell to death in short order.

I use a remington 700 VLS on a bipod as my call in gun. But the mini I like to throw in the truck to shoot badgers, coyotes, skunks or whatever else in my travels. It is short and light and I don't care if it gets banged up (unlike most of my guns).

Would I buy another if this one died?................no
