Mini 14 Scope mount

I just picked up a scope mount for my Mini 14. It looks like it should be mounted under a little metal plate on the side of the receiver. Does anyone know how to remove this plate. Can I just pry it off with a screw driver?

I can't fully remember, but I think you separate the upper and lower and slide it off. I used the ruger mounts on the one I had. Wish it was here then I could give you a sure answer. Hope that's a start.

You could, but don't.

When you disassemble the receiver from the stock you'll see how the plate can slide downward. It may slide down with thumb pressure alone. You can use a non-marring punch - of nylon or brass, for example - and tap it downward.
