Mini 14 Tack Driver?

Ditto on that, I had a Mini-14 once, notice I said that in the past tense.

The one range practice I had near the Kananaskis Country, a friend and his wife using a bubbad 303 SMLE, out-shot the Mini-14, by a country mile!
I am talking 50-150 yard plinking here, honest.

Got rid of it soon after......never missed it.
That was a long time ago, and I still feel retched just thinking about it!

To answer the original question: Is it possible? Yes. Is it practical or inexpensive? Probably not. Is the new, improved target Mini accurate? Yes. Is it cheaper than buying and totally rebuilding an original? Yes.

Never thought I would see Mini 14 and "tack driver" in the same sentance. Good thing it ended with a question mark.

My Mini 14 was the third worst shooter I ever owned. (I have over 100 rifles, so that is a poor performance).

On the other hand, I never cease to be amazed at how good the accuracy is out of a stock Ar-15.

Thanks guys, the info was very enlightening. I have acctually had a chance to get to the range and try it out, it doesn't seem to shoot all that bad. Only bought it because it is non-restricted, and wanted it for coyotes. I already have a Colt HBAR, but a guy could get in a little bit of trouble if he took that out to shoot coyotes. Any way thanks for the knowledge, found some great info from the links you guys put in your replies.

Thanks again,

I have to agree with the members who said find a different rifle, just don't sell it unless you have to. mini 14's in gun reviews do shoot ok but they were not designed to drive tacks. Search the net on mini 14 gun reviews ( including Rugers new mini14 target models) Jeff at gunblast has a good review to read.

it's difficult, I have a stainless mini 14 and i had a 3-9x scope on it but decided it is beter with a red dot sight, i can shoot 5 inch groups at 125 yard with a red dot sight wich isnt bad. I would recoment a tikka rifle if you want accuracy.

Lyle @ Ultimate accuracy in St.Andrews does the Mini 14 conversion.
He uses aheavy Gaillard bbl and new gas block and does the accuracy
work.He can give you the cost but he mentioned somwhere aroud $900.
