I was wondering if anybody knew if any Canada dealers had the mini 14 target rifle in stock? Preferably in Ontario. Any help would be great. Thanks.
Its a Christmas present to myself, as I have been really, really good this year!

Mini-14 TARGET model?

Who knew?

Having had the stereotypical minute of barn accuracy with the one I owned years ago, I am slightly skeptical.

YMMV!

Cheers,

Neal

I've got one, couple other owners I've talked to are getting 0.5"-0.75" at 100 yards, pretty amazing for a semi that costs as little as this does. 1/9" twist rate too, will stabilize the slightly longer pills. Last I checked, everybody was backordered up the ying yang for these, maybe stock's landed I'm not sure, I got mine from a dealer who had to buy two to get himself one early.

I actually think she looks pretty good.

For all you Calgary CGN's that may be interested, there was a Mini-14 Target just like Ardent's at Cdn Tire on Macloud Trail on Saturday. I didn't check the price though.

Al Simon's in Hamilton has two behind the counter. I hefted them and must say there is a bit of weight to the rifle from the heavy barrel and dampener. I prefer the feel to the "rubbery" stock to the other weird looking one. Nice rifle for the money.

Thanks

Just called up to Al Simmons, he still has 2, and Hamilton is 1 hour away from me. Sweet! Christmas may come early this year.

Not sure where you are located, but if Epps (in Orillia) is any closer or more convenient, give them a call. They had a few on their website very recently.

Merry Christmas!

John

Thanks for this thread I may have finally found a non-restricted semi-auto that I want to buy.

I like the idea of the 1 - 9 twist.

My cousin has one and says he's getting sub-moa performance out it! WTF? Who'd a thunk it? :runaway: :) ...not to nitpick or anything, but shouldn't this thread be in Hunting and Sporting Arms and not Black Rifles?;)

According to worldguns.ru the mini did see some limited military/police use, so this forum is not entirely unsuitable (unless we can't talk about target and varmint model AR's as well).

As far as reliability of that information, who knows, but looks like ruger might have a nice unrestricted semi auto there. Durability? Again, who knows. But doesn't look like it is being advertised as a door kicker either.

Also, the fact that ruger is finally listening to what consumers want (I.E, more accurate mini, 1:9 twist) is reason enough to support this rifle, as many companies (including ruger in the past) have completely ignored the consumer's recommendations.

If I didn't already drink AR 180b kool-aid to quench my black gopher gun thirst I would definitely be tempted.

Yes, the mini is used in some very limited military applications (it's Bermuda's service rifle), and it's used by many many police agencies. Still, a hunting and sporting arm to me though like X-Man.

As for durability, the Mini-14 is famous for being just about THE most durable .223 semi on the market. Dead simple, 1 moving part, 2 parts total self cleaning gas system, massive bolt lugs, and a Garand design action. The thing's bulletproof.

Now with the Target, I've got a rifle considerably more accurate than my PE90, with a faster twist rate, for 1/3 the price. My Target as shown still cost less than my PE90 did complete with the Leupold Mk IV M1 16x40mm shown on it. It's also tunable to individual loads... Gotta love it...

This rifle was also produced as a selective fire version, the AC-556.
The select fire model was derived from the SA rifle, not the other way around so no restrictions on the SA Mini-14.

Note the select fire switch just to the right rear of the rear sight.

Rock 'n Roll Eh!

Still, a hunting and sporting arm to me

I'm really starting to think that this rifle is exactly what I have been looking for a fast reliable accurate 223 to go with my Rem 700P 223 for predator hunting...

I guess I had better start looking around for one... :)
