Mini 14 Target Model

... I think I'm going to wait until some of you guys buy a few of the new model and report. If you guys manage to get sub MOA groups I'll buy one myself.

ditto.

It looks great with the laminate stock. If it shoots, I want one. Should be some feedback available in time for my birthday in Feb. :)

Several months ago I held the rifle when I saw it in a store I was totally surprised on how balanced it was.

Now with that said has anyone completely removed the barrel weight because I am curious how it is mounted.

The reason I am asking is that I would prefer a shorter barrel than 22" and would if it isn't to much of a bother get the barrel shortened to make it a faster handling rifle.

Well, that answers the only problem I've ever had with the mini, I really wanted to like the old ones, but I'd never seen one that would shoot. These ones appear to be very good rifles indeed, time to seriously reconsider the Mini 14 (I actually like the look of the damper, it certainly looks no dumber than a Noveske brake)

Mine does, but I have to load the AMAX too long for it to cycle. It *can* be loaded short enough, but just like in an AR, you're giving up a lot of powder space and you don't get to seat as true as when you seat it properly, a little farther out. When seated at mag length, the case mouth actually slightly overhangs the ogive, not pretty...

Better bullets for it from the Hornady line are the 75gr BTHP, the 68gr BTHP, and the 60gr VMAX. This gun will shoot damn near anything well as you can tune it to the load, I'm personally just going to stick with 68's I think, good velocity and decent BC's. For the ranges I shoot a short barreled semi at (max'ish 700), they're perfect.

Someone post a shot up target from one of the mini 14 target rifle please.:sniper:
Let's see what they got!

I would definately like to see that as well...

Ok so I'm looking at Ardent's pic's of his rifle again and that muzzle weight really isn't that bad looking...

Just called Roger @ Hub Sports here in Abbotsford he was able to find one of these rifles for me but unfortunately he could only source a black/gray laminate stocked one would have prefered the black Hougue like Ardent's.

I ordered it and it should be in tomorrow.

I'm going to pop on a huge 6X - 24X Bushnell 4200 Mil-Dot scope for now to give it it's first work outs, I will try out my super accurate 60gr Sierra Varminter HP loads first then move to my 50gr Sierra Blitz loads... :D

I got one too...just today!

Hey Ardent...your thread here was so compelling that I read it about an hour ago, and I am already back home from P&D with new Mini 14 Target! :D

I handled both and bought the laminated stock one...it is beautiful. :)

For those of you looking...P&D in Edmonton have at least one in each configuration (Hogue & Laminated) in stock right now. They are both $925.
