Mini 14 Target Model

Cam,

WOW! Those are FANTASTIC groups for a Mini 14 !!!!!! :)

I didn't make it out yet...will be at the range tomorrow, so I'll post my targets tomorrow night.

The next time out I am going to tune the stabalizer in at 50 yards and sight it in as perfectly as I can then I'll move out to 100 yards do whatever other sighting corrections I have to do to get is sighted in perfectly.

Then I will go for the 200 then 300 yard distances...

Looks like I am going to have to start reloading more bullets soon you definately go thru far more in a semi than a bolt gun. :)

Ardent I am definately looking forward to seeing your targets as well.

Well it's done, got my Mini-14 Target with Hogue stock from P&D (1st dealing with them, really kind people). Should have it Monday or Tuesday, but won't be able to shoot until I'm back in Mai.... But it'll be there :)

Here is picture of mine with a Leupold VX111 4.5X-14X... :D

Here are some targets I shot at 100 yards today, using a couple different factory loads. I have never seen performance anywhere near this good from a Mini 14 before. I LOVE MINE!

This is the result of tuning the harmonic balancer three different times for the same load...

It really seems to like the 45gr Rem hollow point load...although I may have a "flyer" problem here...or I may just be "jerking one off" once in awhile.

And here is my favorite group with that load...4 shots, again with one "flyer".

Again, shows some real potential.

Any of you guys have the hogue stocked model? I like the looks better, but I'm curious about how it is in real life. Any thoughts on it?

Thanks

I've got both, but optics height's an issue on the Hogue model, stock mini rings aren't exactly low, I had to custom order these 30mm's individually in low height. This set up's not bad, but the factory 1" rings are too high for my liking with the Hogue stock. With the cheek rise on the laminate though the stock rings are great, for varmint the laminate's fantastic. The Hogue stock has a lot of flex the laminate does not too.

Great report Jeff...

Seeing your targets/loads made me think about which of my 2 loads grouped better and I am leaning to the 50gr Blitzs being more accurate so far which is kind of surprising to me considering the 1 - 9" twist rate.

I'd love to get back to the range this afternoon but my in-laws are going to be showing up from Alberta in just a few minutes so it's out of the question for today. :(

Flipping weekend actually...

This is what I like most about sites like this...

Example Ardent starts the thread and gets some of us interested now several of us have also bought the rifles and find that they can do what they have been advertised too do.

Now we get to work up loads and work with each other on what loads work best...

Nice setup :) Could you tell me more about these rings? Where did you get them? I also prefer a lower scope.

Thanks!

Regarding bullet weights with 1:9 twist my savage/stevens LOVES 50gr vmax, and they are the best coyote bullet I've tried as well. Bang flop every time with no exits so far.

My mini has a gaillard barrel which is .750 diameter the full length. I've only tried it with irons but I got several 2" groups at 100 yards with factory ammo the first time out - and I can barely SEE the target to aim without the 8.5-25 scope I'm used to shooting with. ;)

That is using a folding stock that is missing the stock reinforcement pieces so the receiver is able to move within the stock with just mild pressure from my thumbs. Can't wait to see what it'll do with proper bedding, scope and handloads. :D
