Mini 14 Trouble

I`m sorry but i think even the mag fanatics are wrong. As far as i know the proper term is detachable box magazine. To the op i agree with some of the other posters about a good cleaning, if you still have misfires talk to a gunsmith.

Give your bolt and trigger group a good cleaning. Inspect all the spring to make sure they haven't lost their tension. Clip mag. Who cares? As long as your happy #### the rest of the douche,s out there.

Whoo-Whee!

This post is too anal retentive here. Clip/magazine? Shell/casing/primer?

We all know from this person's description to know a little to what is going on.

Give the thing a thorough cleaning, take it to the range and see what happens. If the problem continues, then we can give you all the advice in the world, but we are not experts, per se. Take it to a gunsmith to dtermine for sure what the problem is. If you call Ruger, you may have to send it to them for working on. Either way, take the advice on the internet with a grain of salt, particularly when folks get all anal over the description of clip, shell, etc. :D

To the anal retentive comments....give it a rest, we are supposed to be a friendly bunch and happy to assist fellow nutters. NOT chastise for the incorrect description of a magazine, casing or primer!

He also mentioned he had it jam, something I have never witnessed a mini do. Just pointing it out as it sounds like the rifle may have multiple issues.

Some of the early Mini scope mounts located the scope at a perfect angle to bounce empty case right back at the action. I had to make a little defector which I D&T'd onto the lower scope mount bar to solve the problem on mine.
The mount I'm refering to mounted in place of the peep site useing the thru screw? & just saddled on the barrel ahead of the receiver.

A thorough field strip oughta work. Its a mini, not much can really go wrong, they are very simple and reliable, maybe not so accurate though. lol or at least mine is not.

I hate jumping on bandwagons, but Oh Canada, you need to relax. As was pointed out, we have someone asking a question regarding a "firearm". No need to jump down the OP's throat.

You should not own a gun if you can't tell a clip from a magazine. Someone like that is likely unable to tell the safety from the trigger  ... BTW a shell does not fire... the primer embedded in the shell ignites the powder inside the shell which forces the bullet out of the shell.
Perhaps you're thinking of the case.
would be the primer not the case.... the case just holds everything it doen't fire.....
Like I said... case (not primer, already established that the primer ignites the powder, the shell does not hold everything together though - it is the shotgun equivalent of a cartridge or round - not case or hull) - but that is a reading comprehension issue, not nomenclature.

Agreed, just so hard to resist the temptation of illustrating the irony of the guys having to correct other guys making mistakes themselves. Suppose that underscores the danger of following internet advise... (by the way, my favorite load for the Mini 14 is 43 grains of varget under... oops typo...).

If the brake clean, grease, oil treatment not do it and turns out you need springs, firing pin... can order them from Carole at snapshots@videotron.ca (Cdn Ruger repair rep), excellent service.

mini14

I got a mini 14 ranch rifle cheap because it had the same issue you have. I bought a wolfe gunsprings mini 14 op rod spring and the guns works great after five years.
