Mini 14 - Use Ruger rings or Rail

The ranch Rifle I have came with the standard ruger rings and also a scope mount rail.

Is there an advantage for using 1 system over the other ?
 
I like the ruger rings, should be the best way to mount a scope close to the bore. And one less thing to go wrong.
The rail mount would be good for red dot or a scope with built in mounts.

For a traditional scope, maybe the rail will allow you to mount the scope further back for eye relief purposes.

That's my personal line of thinking.
 
On my Mini 14 I've got the #5 Ruger rings and on my Mini 30 and I use the rail with Leupold low PRW rings. I prefer the set up on the Mini 30 because it gets the scope a little lower to the rifle.
 
your mini came with both?????

mine didnt.

i have to buy a weigland rail afterwards and ended up going back to the rings

any chance you can post a pic of the rail?

I don't shoot corrosive out of my 582 Series Mini 30 and I haven't removed the bolt since I put the rail on. The rail has a cut-out, I assumed to ensure ejected brass clears smoothly. As it is a Ruger supplied rail I also assumed the cut-out is there also to allow bolt removal without taking the rail off.
 
is that a new thing getting a rail with the rifle, how does it attach on the ring slots?
mine only came with rings.
nice rings, im running them right now.

never mind, seems they switched over in 2013 to sending out the guns tapped for this rail you can get through them now.
so while my mini 14 is a 582 its from 2012 and missed getting tapped.

my google-fu is strong today.
