mini 14's

You're wrong, I know someone that can obtain ½" of barn accuracy... :p :p :p

Extra added whiz-bang goodies ?

I dunno is there anything that can be added to a Mini-14 to obtain better than 'minute-of-barn' accuracy from them?

A lot of the arguments and points raised here sound shockingly similar to the typical SKS vs. AR arguments I've seen (and participated in) here on the boards. Talk about beating a dead horse!! Bottom line; to each his own. I've shot a Mini 14, it was great fun :D Kinda like my SKS... And if you're shooting for fun, is 1/2 MOA really necessary? On the other side of the coin, if you're shooting for accuracy, or competetively, why the hell would you buy a Mini 14? Right tool for the right job, y'know? Then again, there's no accounting for taste :p

It would be nice if Ruger put a guarantee of 2moa or better on these guns.
Might help sales I don't like the idea of buying a new($700.00) gun and getting a lemon.
It's easier to gamble on an SKS because they only cost $150.00

i bought my mini a long time ago...(182) series and it shoots fine. I have heard many people say they are inferior to the AR, but I have to agree with another post above... I can take mine in the field. I can actually use it. I can actually shoot a coyote with it...
Ok, so I cant shoot a squirell through the eye at 100 yards... but I can sure as heck hit a coyote at that range.
I bought an aftermarket folding stock for it.. works great. Good bush gun.

I have two mini-14s,my 181 series will shoot 2moa with fmj.I set it up with a ultimak rail and a 2x scout scope.shot service rifle with it and scored a 456 and at 500yrds I got a 46.My other mini is on it's way back to ruger to get a new bolt.the biggest problem with the mini is that ruger has some parts that are factory replacment only.I got the gun used and put at lest 5000rds through it and a third of that was in three days.
I find it interesting that some people will buy a m1a/m14/m305 and spend thousands on it and not put any to get a mini to shoot better the info is out there if you look.

The Mini 14 I owned was a decent shooter....at the 40 yard indoor range it put 5 into a ragged hole...and at 100M it was about a 1-1/2" to 2" gun....this was a few years back I didn't know wasn't supposed to shoot that well and sold it...wish I had it back.

There are aftermarket barrels for mini 14's that make them shoot very well. I also saw an article In Guns magazine a few years ago by a very good ipsc shooter, who was getting great results with his mini 14 by using a barrel weight on it.

Mini 14's are very popular with Indians in Alberta, as are 30 shot magazines.
