My friend at work has a ruger mini 30 ranch rifle with a composite stock and stainless steel barrel he says there a good gun cause the ammo is cheap and he keeps saying the government missed these on their registry and it should of been in the the restricted catagory? What does he mean by this? Anyways hes put 200 rounds through it and wants to sell it for 750$ is it a good deal??? I havent seen any on here for sale?
Buy it or dont buy it?
Thanks

Also has anyone shot one of these? I hear there not the best for accuracy, then i hear there really good? Then ihear there garbage and go for the cz 858? Please help!!
Thanks!

go to search. type in ruger mini in the search box. click post only down on the left hand side use the prametr 36 months and newer. finally on the right hand side you click it to search only in black and green.

All the mysteries shall be revealed.

Should you want to know about value do the same search but limit it to the excange of hunting and the modern rifles one. Should see about 20 of these sold here in the last 3 years.

good luck

I would say its not a bad price but if you are looking for a precision rifle do NOT buy either a Mini-14 or a Mini-30. They are both fun to shoot but not really that accurate , they are what they are , a ranch rifle!!
As for the government missing them and saying they should be restricted you should smack your friend for talking dirty like that !! I think your friend is a heretic and speaking nonesens lol ! What he means is that at one time the G men wanted to put the mini-14/30 on the restricted of prohib list , I can not remember , it all stems from the shooting so many years ago in quebec!
Anyways , so in my opinion about the gun , for the price its not a rip off seeing as they are almost 1000 dollars new , and thats a rip! If you are gonna shoot the czech milsurp ammo out of it dont expect much accuracy ! I would rather get the Mini-14 cause .223 is still pretty reasonable in price but for the non milsurp 7.62x39 its going up in price almost 20 dollars a box and thats if you can find it !

"...What does he mean by this?..." He's confused. Neither the Mini-30 nor Mini-14 meet the definition of a restricted rifle. Barrel length, etc.
Way back in the late 70's, a Mini-14 was used by a criminal, Lapine, I think to commint a bunch of murders. All the current idiocy stems from that. Trudeau's gang enacted a bunch of useless laws, like inventing the restricted rifle, but didn't include the Mini-14. Your buddy may be thinking of that.
Both are over priced, inaccurate rifles, but fun to shoot. Epp's is listing a new SS Mini-30 for $890.61, so $750 isn't that great of a price. Might be ok if it has a bunch of mags though.

The AR-15 does NOT meet the definition of a "restricted" rifle either but it neverthe less "restricted". The asswipes in Ottawa can get away with pretty much whatever they want.

The Libs have a hard on to restrict the Mini-14 and there are many bureaucrats that are still actively looking for a way to prohibit the Mini-14.

To answer the OP question:
The Mini-30 is a good rifle, but for $700, I would go for the Cz-858. I have a Mini-14 and a Cz. I can tell you the Cz is a tack driver right out of the box. It weighs next to nothing and is perfectly legal to take deer hunting, which I am going to do this fall.
