mini 30 issues?

So far no problems with mine. Interested in knowing more tho.

I am using russian ammo or check ammo,my sks fires every time on these rounds, but my mini 30 has a high percentage of mis fires, when I save these rounds and load them in the sks they all fire. The primer on the mini 30 is not dented as deep or as big as diameter.I stripped the bolt and checked the firing pin,it appears that it does not have sufficient protrostion.I need a new firing pin with a longer tip.this is a new rifle, less than fifty rounds shot by me,and put away in disgust.

I was talking to a counter guy at a gun shop about getting one (mini 30) because I already had a SKS and VZ58 and wanted to use the same ammo. He said that the mini 30 didn't like the military ammo and I would have to start buying the hunting ammo quality stuff. I was going to look into that little tidbit later when I was getting closer to my next purchase. Maybe, something to check out?

Real Guns has a good three part article on the Mini 30. Probably of interest to those in this thread is the background on primers/ftf's and the results with Wolff springs. Complete with detailed pictures. The links to the follow-on articles are at the bottom of the page.
