Hi everyone..

I recently bought a Ruger Mini 30 and am now looking for a scope to put on it. I am really a bolt gun guy and have never owned a center fire semi auto before. I have heard that these rifles are hard on scopes.

So the question is.. Is there a scope out there in the 300-500 dollar range that will stand up to the recoil??

I have considered the Vortex Viper PST 1-4
Hi-Lux CMR 1-4

Has anyone looked at the VX-R Zombie scope from leupold?? This would be the most I would spend.. I know it is more like 700 but I might catch some OT and be able to splurge.. Would it be worth the extra moneys?? Can I get turrets calibrated for the 7.62X39 for the Zombie??

Any others I should consider??

Also are they any dealers who have 30mm Ruger rings in stock?? No one seems to.

Thanks for your time..

Leupold makes the VX-2 in 1-4x20mm, and I'm pretty sure it fits your budget. It's the modern version of the Vari-X II 1-4x20mm, which I have 7 or 8 copies of. Fantastic little close-to-medium range scope, tough as nails.

I have used a older Scopechief on my Mini 30- no problems. Unlike the non ranch Mini 14's, I believe all Mini 30's that come with scope rings have an internal buffer system that makes the gun easy on scopes. I have a 2-7x Vortex Viper which I plan to mount on the Mini 30. These are excellent scopes for the $$, lifetime warranty. Camerland, a CGN sponsor can be used for price checks but they do not currently ship scopes to Canada.

I use a Burris 2 x 7 on my Mini 30. It's not a long range rifle so I don't see a need for a powerful scope. It is rugged, has clear optics, and doesn't increase the weight of the rifle much. Good value for the money, I think.

Thanks everyone.. I ended up buying a Leupold VX-R 1.25-4 Zombie edition.. We will see how it lasts..

And test out the Leupold warranty claims if it fails.. I am not convinced Korth is living up to their reputation lately but it maybe just rumor too.. You never know.

Leupold AR scope

You might look at the Leupold AR scopes either the 1x4 or 3x9. You can get the latter with a Mil dot reticule. I like them on Minis because I wanted a lighter weight scope, since it does not make much sense to put a heavy scope on a rifle if you intend to carry it. P&D who are a CGN sponsor usually have them in stock.
