I've been reading a lot of mixed reviews about the mini-30 and i'm not quite sure which ones to believe, some claim it's a crappy rifle with a bad trigger and piss poor accuracy while others say its a decent rifle with acceptable accuracy.

Which rifle has the better trigger and is more accurate? Do they both digest the milsurp ammo well?

Which would be the better choice if both had the same price tag, the 858 or the 30?

thanks for lookin!

Mini-30 & milsurp ammo!?!
Omg you must love cleaning your rifle! The CZ 858 rifle is in my mind the best beast for milsurp ammo, cleaning & spare parts.

I have never seen a mini 30 so I can not comment on it. My 858 shot about 3 MOA with chec surplus. Easy to ring the gong at 300 yards. Mags are much cheaper. Mine was reliable and had a fairly nice trigger for a military style carbine.

Just go with the 858. I've never been impressed by the mini 30, and haven't heard anything good about them either. The 858 on the other hand is amazing and I would strongly recommend them. Strong, accurate, cheap(ish), and easy to clean and work on. Plus there are a lot of them and lots of spare parts.

Watch out though, the CZ 858 non-restricted version does not have a chromed barrel, so you must make sure that you clean it every time you use corrosive primed surplus ammo.

I have gotten pretty close to MOA groupings with my 858 and Norc ammo, czech crate ammo is usually between 3"-4". These are not cold barrel groupings either. Most people will tell you that the Mini-30 does an average of 5" no matter how good the ammo (I say most cause I'm sure some people get better groups).

If you remove the extra spring in the 858 the trigger is VERY NICE for a military type trigger. Even with the extra spring the trigger is nice but heavier. Don't know about the Mini 30 triggers.

The VZ58s that I have shot have all eaten whatever they are fed without issue. I'm sure the Mini-30 will do the same.

Mini-30 mags may be hard to get. VZ58 mags are fairly easy as most rifles come with 4.

Far as I know the mini-30 is more expensive then the 858. That said the 858 is a superior rifle in many ways. I would always choose the 858.

YMMV :D

mini 30s area known for not being to consume the milsurp ammo
their firing pin doesnt strike the hard military primers strong enough

858 all the way, and a note on the unchromed barrel guys. My buddy and I used a kit to coat the inside of the barrel. It is made by Life Liner and is a Nano Ceramic coating. It was very easy to use and I am happy to spend the money for the extra protection.

Mini 30 is a decent rifle, don't get me wrong, but the CZ is cheaper, cmes with 4 mags, has alot of aftermarket stuff available already, and has a really nice balance. The mini is overpriced at a thousand bucks if you can find one.

I don't like cleaning anything, i've also read cleaning a mini was a #####... I guess it's true

My mini-30 digest everything

I have both and they both consume any ammo you put through it.

The mini-30 is accurate enough at 3-4 moa with surplus ammo. It is the stainless version. It is easy to clean and after shooting thousand of rounds shows no additional war from the surplus ammo. It a fun rifle. Cheap to shoot. I also find it very reliable and if you have a m14 it breaks down much the same way.

I wouldn't buy a 2nd mini-30. But I would not sell mine either.
