Mini Slugs for a Mini Shotgun - with Range Report

OK...here's some cold water to throw on the fire.

If these are shorter you can stack more of them in a tube magazine; What about an 1100 or 11-87 or benelli semi auto that holds four or five 2 3/4" rounds...are we now in a condition where a centre-fire semi auto holds more than five rounds?

What does the mag limit law state?

Well, a semi-auto would definitely "hold" more than 5 rounds. Tho, after the first shot, it would jam and be relatively useless. The mini-shells don't have enough oomph to cycle the shell...

CanAm - I think that a combination load whould be the best for the threats that the SMD 12 (in my mind) would be best for. The first rd of buck would suffice for close wild dogs, coyotes and scare off a bear. The slugs would keep a bad situation from getting worse. I remember reading about a detective on the NYPD "Stakeout" squad in "Combat Handguns" who had his snubby loaded with a light tgt rd in the first chamber and his hand loaded "bear killers" in the others. His reasoning being that the first rd was for precision and the others to get the job done. In a way my approch is the opposite, more firepower up front with precision (as it were) for the follow up. In my mind this combo load gives the best of both worlds - the increased capacity of mini-slugs and the first round power of a full sized buck shot rd.

All that said, I don't like being shot at and would rather have a C8 (or LAV ) than an SMD 12.

JohnC indicated to me to put more forward tension on the fore end, and get rail covers. I got a nasty blood blister on my left hand today so I will definately do both for my next range practice...and wear my mortar gloves.

Cheers

12+1 fit in my Benelli Supernova 18" w/extension, cycle very well. Cycle "with authority" in Fabarm 14"(9+1), Norinco 14"(7+1) and Remington 870 20" w/ext (13+1). They fall through lift gate on Mossberg 590a1. They are too short to feed in a Benelli M4 due to the rocker-style mag catch so I don't know if they cycle the action. Tried a couple of comparisons in a SxS to get a feel of recoil - shorty slug felt the same as 2 3/4" 7.5 trap load.

Sounds like a business plan for a new shotgun, honey If I buy a 12 bore I can get these and they are so much cheaper!

If you are having trouble getting Aguila mini shot shells , ELLWOODEPPS.com has listed in the ammo section ENGLISH shot shells made by GAMEBORE in shot only, no slugs but 2 in., 2 1/2 in., in 12 gauge and in 16 gauge they have 2 1/2 in., where 16 gauge is normally 2 3/4in. These are mostly for people with some of the English SxS shotguns that are or were made with the shorter chambers

22rimfireguy: How did they cycle in your shotgun, any malfunctions, tipped sideways round or double feeds? If you had malfunctions what percent of total fired . Aguila says the guns should be modified, yours probably isn't moded for these rounds, so some FTFunction should be expected. Or did they all work perfectly?
