Is there such a thing as a minimum barrel length when it comes to hunting small game in QC with a shotgun ? Or is it only the OAL length of 26” for the NR status ?

I ask because I have a 20g OU with 12” bbl. OAL is 26.5” and I always thought this would be aN Ideal small game hunting gun, but I was recently told that I couldn’t hunt with anything shorter than 18.5” bbl.

Isn’t the 18.5” for semi autos to remain NR ? Or am I missing something ?

Your prov regs should have it listed if there is a min length requirement, B.C. is listed and is 12”. If it doesn’t mention anything than you likely don’t have a min length to worry about, rules and regs only seem to state what you can’t do.

You’re right though a short barrelled shotgun is pretty great for small game, that is provided it has chokes.

18.5” rule is the federal length for semi auto shotguns, manual actions follow the OAL provided the short barrel comes at that length from the factory.
