Hey all,
Planning on building a shorty, wishing to use the surefire forend, wondering how long the barrel must be to acomodate it. Also, does it overlap the receiver when cycled??
There's a Grizzly with what I'm guessing is a 12.5" barrel in the EE with a Surefire forend on it. I dunno if you can go shorter than that and still have it function though.
If you read his ad you'll see that it won't work with the grizzly mag cap. Easily fixed though by replacing it or removing the sling loop. You'll also notice that the action is to the rear. Once the pump is cycled forward it will be sticking past the front of the barrel by at least a couple of inches. My recomendation would be a 14" barrel. It will still stick out slightly, but not nearly as much.
I have one on my 14" 870, it sticks out about 1/4" past the barrel and it gets pretty "sooty" after a few shots. I think a 12.5" barrel would be worse.
I have a 14" with a Surefire forend. It works fine with this barrel length. I do remove the flashlight when I shoot at the range and have a plug that keeps crud out while I practice. Why shake up the lamp if it isn't necessary?
