Minimum caliber for Cape eland

I'm not sure thats what the man intended. You know,in the wild, acting as they should. Oh come on. Do you really really compare that which is ranch raised to wild in how it behaves? Oh God you poor soul your in for as big a shock there as you are when you see how desperately marginal your 06 is:bangHead:

Actually, many of the ranches in Texas are much larger than the ranches in South Africa. How big was the ranch you hunted on in South Africa? I've seen eland on three Texas ranches and the smallest was 11,000 acres. The eland and a host of other critters run totally wild and breed freely and the only contact they have with man is when they are being hunted, and other than geographical location, it's pretty much identical to much of what you'll find in much of South Africa. So I guess if you consider the eland you shot a wild one, you'd have to consider the ones in Texas the same. It's a big world out there........

What else could the man have intended. I said I'd seen lots of eland before and he asked where...I answered...did I miss something?

So now your debate has taken to defending seeing eland in Texas.

How related is this to your very first post on the 30 06?

A few of the guys here, as you well know, play in the dirt. And if you get in and play with them too long, you can't get out without getting a bit of dirt on yourself.
The debate has had nothing to do with Eland for sometime, it's about taking SH down a peg.

Lets remember the little boy next door,... would we engage him... or symapthetically smile and let him believe what helps him get through the day..

;)

LOL...words of wisdom seal and truthfully this isn't about winning or losing a debate......I just made a comment way back when about Vanessa taking her .30-06 to Africa and it's morphed into this. Truthfully, the only person's opinion we care about is our PH and we sat down with him a few weeks ago and discussed guns and bullets and he had zero reservations about Vanessa shooting an eland with her .30-06 despit the fact that she said she was very comfortable shooting my .338. That's where it ends for us. I'm not trying to talk anyone into anything and I truthfully don't care what all the one hit wonders on here think. If someone wants to shoot a .500NE for eland, I say good on them. I think the fact that thousands of eland have been killed with catridges from 6.5 to .30-06 puts to rest any question as to whether a .30-06 will kill them. It will...dead eland tell no tales...

Does her shooting a .30-06 come with some limitations? You bet. Vanessa knows her limits and is very happy to stay within them. I'm not sure why old asusual is so intent on proving I'm a liar and internet fraud because I've got no reason to lie. We are going to Africa and Vanessa is shooting a .30-06...end of story. The only thing that I can figure out is that as Omega pointed out, he is frightened that after we come back, Vanessa will be as much of and expert eland hunter as him.

Funny, it had been years since I thought about the little boy next door and now I can't get him off my mind.

I always used to wind the boy next door up and take great pride in him crying to his mother when it all came to a head. Cheers to the boy next door, keeping me entertained all these years in one form or another.

Asusual, how often do you wax the inside of your eland's ears?

"...could sneak a 17 rim in his eyeball..." You wouldn't be allowed in the bush with one. Most African countries have a minimum calibre for everything.

Yup, 7mm in Namibia for plains game but I guess on the private ranches the rules may be different.

I see the responses there Gate, but now you too will be accused of skewing these answers in Sheep's favor. On the Eland ears, I too wondered if he was really proud of the shine he had got on them and that resulted in the odd angle of the photo or was it to keep from emphasising the length of the horns? Hmmm...

I think the responses on AR are skewed in favour of the "Use a reasonable cartridge and a good bullet and put it in the right place" school of thought.:p
