Minimum clearance between scope and barrel

Just got my new Sightron SIII 10-50X60 today; what a nice piece of glass!!

I wanted to use the Leupold PRW medium-height rings I already had but it leaves me with a space about the height of a credit card between barrel of my Savage FTR (308win) and scope.Too close for comfort??

I have read anything from "as long as a dollar bill can pass" to a minimum of 0,1". What do you guys think?

All, Thank you for your inputs; I am leaving it as is.

3 sheets of 20 weight paper, the scope and barrel both flex during recoil, and even though they may not be touching they WILL touch if too close, and it will beat the crap out of the scope. 50 cal needs a full 3mm
