minimum gr bullet for deer .243

There's not a lot of good bullet designs for the .243 that are ideal for deer and light weight. I'd stay with the heavier bullets.

A 55 gr Barnes TTSX would be a sweet bullet, IMO. Probably could hit 4000 fps with that.

You didn't say which 90 gn bullet you are using, I used the Speer 90 gn hotcore for years in the 243 and killed one of the larger black bears I've shot with that load.
I might suggest to keep the 90 gnr and back off the powder a little. I did this with my son's 260 when we went to Africa a couple years ago (he was 9 at the time), loaded 100 gnrs down to 2800 fps almost 0 recoil and killed warthog and steinbok just fine.

I highly recommend the 95 grain Nosler Partition, however avoid using any Barnes bullets...............best that they are used for a more experienced shooter/hunter.:D

My wife has cleanly harvested 4 deer & a bear with her 243 & 100 grain projectiles. Last year's buck was a BANG FLOP!

Cheers

Bug is heading to the woods - AWESOME! Set her up with what ya got. Nothing wrong with 90 grainers. The .243 is more noise than recoil.

I have used the 85, and 95 gr. I bought some of the Hornady 75 gr. hollow points but was not able to take an animal with them.

Bought a savage package for my wife 4 yrs ago. She has taken 6 white tails with it. At ranges from 75 yds to 200. She has great groups (sub-MOA from the bench) with just federal blue box 100grs.

I've used a few different wieghts from 80gr - 100gr in my .243 on deer and never had a problem. I prefer the heavier just for piece of mind. If she shoots well with the 90gr why change a thing? Good luck!
