Minister guarantees new gun laws will not hurt hunting rights

I can see the government pushing the idea that the only reason to own firearms are hunting and the protection of livestock by farmers. Eventually the argument will be made that only First Nations have a "right" to hunt so they will be the only ones allowed to possess firearms for hunting. Once that is accomplished they will severely restrict the types of firearms that First Nations can use and mandate central storage on reservations or even mandate that the firearms be the property of the band to be loaned out during hunting seasons.

You guys that think only natives will be allowed to hunt are insane. Even BC would kick their ####ing government out (next election) if something like that was brought up.

Seems insane for our lifetime. It is not insane to believe that some day in the distant future all hunting activities are restricted. And since nobody wants to touch native rights, a future in which only natives are hunting is quite possible. Take a look at what people were saying was not possible or "insane" 100 years ago, look at just your lifetime. The future looks grim.

i want to see the first nations surrender firearms ... i m pretty sure despite their liberal leaning they learnt from the older elders of the history of the past ...

well i strongly disagree with that and i can tell you why: how many of us challenged the government and authorities on the wrong emergency measures and acts all across canada let alone the weak support on the freedom convoy ...

I said that I hoped we learned I didn't say that we had..

You might want to read the words from that Alberta Act that you think GIVES you a "right" ...

Right to hunt and fish
1(1) A person has a right to hunt, fish and trap in accordance with the law.
(2) The reference to the law in subsection (1) includes the Wildlife Act, the Fisheries Act (Canada), the Migratory Birds Convention Act, 1994 (Canada) and the regulations made under those Acts.

Non‑derogation of aboriginal rights
2 Nothing in this Act derogates from any aboriginal right to hunt, fish or trap.
