I was giving the brand new Sako a quick once-over after unpacking, and noticed the damage to the muzzle. I checked the box, it wasn't damaged in transit. Should I make a fuss over this, or just shrug and carry on. It is a hunting rifle after all, small dings and scratches are inevitable, and it won't effect the performance.

So, raise hell or much ado about nothing?

Not touching the crown id just leave it unless your gun ho to exchange it.

The "you paid for new and thats not new, exchange it and demand they bend to your every demand since your the wronged paying customer" crowd should be here shortly.

I would let the seller know and carry on as usual. They may be interested if it was a factory pack and it can't hurt to cover your bases...just in case it sprays bullets all over for some (other)reason

Is this new to you, or new from the store?

New from store and I would mention it as they should at least show pics to sako so better quality controll happens at the very least.

New to you, I would mention it to the previous owner and the based on his reaction I would decide what I was going to do at that point.

New from store.

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll keep it and move on. I will shoot the retailer an email with photo to let them know, however.

It would be going straight back for the money you paid for it. If you wanted a used gun, you could have bought one.

Let Sako know, send the pic with the details.

If I was running such a company I'd like to know if folks in my shop were being careless.

Was there anything wrong with the cash you paid for it?

I would answer that question and take it from there.

telling the retailer just FYI they will say thanks and probably shrug it off

a reputable retailer would likely exchange it no questions asked for just showing them the defect/damage, a less reputable one would do the above

Irregardless of what you paid for it, a new rifle is a new rifle and I wouldn't let it slide. Sako has a reputation for quality and I would be surprised if they didn't do
something to rectify the situation. I would send pictures of the gun, pictures of the box it came in and all the details about the purchase and shipping. If there is
a problem with Sako's quality control, you'll be doing them a favour and maybe future Sako customers as well.
