Minor vs Major

Power factor is mass multiplied by velocity. Which is also the definition of momentum.

Momentum has a better correlation than energy when comparing "one shot stops" so it is really not that outdated a criteria.

Well in IPSC we are more worried about "one shot drops" (Poppers) and major is more reliable for these. Lol

Thanks all for the insight. The gun I wanted to buy is the new Sig P320 X Five. But after these great answers, maybe I should just go with the new Sig P320 VTac @ 4.7 inch barrel and take the magwell off. Or just the regular P320 Nitron.
I am only in it for fun, I do reload my own rifle rounds.
Thanks All.

To be honest, even if you reload 9mm is cheaper. I shoot Classic minor, I find the increased mag capacity works in my favour. But as far as the OP is concerned- I'd say get a 9mm and shoot more. In a year or two your tastes may change. You'll end up with a bunch of guns anyway.

If you are shooting for fun and realize that you just are not ever going to be in the running to win the 12 cent trophy, which is probably about 90% of the shooters, then use whatever tickles your fancy and who cares what division it puts you in.
Have fun and be safe, the rest is moot.
9x19 has a lot going for it and is available in any platform so the concept of better this or that in major is complete bs.
However if you have the physical and mental conditioning to be driven to win in standard division and need to find out that answer then 40 is your best option.

IIRC you can't take parts off a gun to make it production division legal. Otherwise you could do the same thing to the x five.

IPSC is more about speed than accuracy. Like said above, taking time to shoot A's will hurt your score at the end of the day. Go major, run fast and blast away. You'll have a smile on your face at the end of the day regardless because shooting sports are awesome no matter what category you are in.
