Mirage- How do PRS Folks Handle It?

I was doing some plinking today with my rifle and was experiencing a lousy sight picture due to mirage. It only takes maybe four shots and my sight picture turns to poo.

What do PRS folks do about mirage? I am only plinking at 300 yards at the moment so I simply wait until the barrel cools. It is fairly irritating having to wait and takes a while to get through 40 rds with any precision.

Mirage off the barrel is really only a big problem in the winter.. during the summer, the air is hot so the heat off the barrel has to be very high before it starts to cause issues. We get alot of this problem in F class where we might burn through 17 to 25rds at a time. Mirage band/shield is used by many.

Any breeze over the barrel and the mirage is gone. When I do my testing in the winter, I will hook up a USB powered fan and a battery and just put a light breeze over the barrel... All better.

If the mirage is due to ambient conditions, dialing back the magnification will clear up the target blur.

If it's barrel mirage, a scope sunshade tends to "split" the heat monkeys coming off the barrel and blocks most barrel mirage. Or do a others suggested with fans, venetian blinds etc.

If you are anywhere but on a sun drenched regulation square range ....move. Moving can help with the barrel heat from the sun and even target blur from ground heat mirage.
 
Barrel mirage becomes a serious problem after about 3 shots if there is no wind. Usually there is a little breeze, so we don't have a problem.

I have an indoor firing point at my home range. It is a/c in the summer and heated in the winter. very nice. Except the barrel heat destroys the sight picture after 3 shots. The solution is a batter-operated little fan to blow across the barrel.
