Mirrors in a tree stand?

At first it sounds silly, but resisting the urge to check out that noise behind you (which is usually a bad idea, as it's pretty hard to do as quietly as needs to be done in most close quarter tree stand situations) is a tough thing to do, I was wondering if anybody used a mirror, either mounted in place or one of those helmet mounted ones that cyclists use? I'm going to try it I think, anybody else tried it?

One flash from that mirror, and your deer [or whatever] is gone.

They tend to reflect light very well, and would catch the eye of a prey species, I'm sure.

I wouldn't use them either for the above stated reason, I slowly turn and look back once in a while, with the tree trunk hiding most of my movement.
 
I would only use a hand held mirror and rather quickly to check my beard and mustache for crumbs after eating my lunch in a tree stand.
 
Mirrors can only reflect light if it shines into them. That would mean that the light would have to be behind you. Some care can be taken against that. As long as you don't move them around it should be fine.
 
I read a 'tips' article long ago, probably in Field and Stream, in which the author recommended getting one of the little rearview mirrors that city cyclists put on their glasses and using that to keep an eye out behind you. That way, the author said, you can tell whether the noise behind you is a squirrel or a monster white tail. The genius of it is that to use the mirror, you only have to move your head slightly. I believe that recommendation was mainly for those who sort of walk in and sit under a tree. OTOH, I don't see any reason why you couldn't fix an old car mirror in your permanent tree stand but somehow that seems a little redneck.... :)

that redneck tree stand (old pick up truck cab) probably has the mirrors still on it. I can't find a pic of it at this time.

Pewt a mirror on the tree beside you up a head a little.
Position it sews ya can see it.
Might take a few upseez downseez to git it just right.

Or a backup camera............?
Or spy glasses with the mirrors up in the temple forward area.
