Misaligned Bino's?

Anyone have any tips on how to deal with misaligned binos? I found an old pair in the basement. They work perfectly except each tube points away from each other very slightly. by pulling the rear parts of the tubes very slightly, I can align them enough for use, but the slight muscle tension in doing so causes my hands to waiver just enough to make sighting difficult.

The connection between the tubes is a hard black plastic. I'm wondering if I couldn't heat it and try to correct it when it's hot and let it cool straight?

My advice ( which you probably won't like) is to buy a new pair. Vortex has great "cheap" bins that will blow away almost anything from many years ago. Unless the pair you're trying to "fix" are Steiners, Leicas, or something else of quality, you're just wasting your time.

You'd be better off buying a piece of crap pair from walmart that trying to fix optical equipment by melting the housing Into a proper position.
 
bin them- ANYTHING back then cheap was made from pot metal to be at least saleable, and the better stuff was all steel and aluminum or better- if it's made of plastic, they're probably cheap binocs from a kid's "combat" set- you know the kind with the squirt gun, the cap firing grenade and the plastic helmet- and i used to work for wild in the service dept, which is now lieca
if you do decide to try to fix them, don't be surprised if the plastic 1) doesn't do what you wanted, but warps worse) 2) use warm WATER and twist "easy and slowly"-DO NOT USE A FLAME- what will happen is the heat will carbonise the plastic first stretching it like spagetti, and then go brittle as it cools- same deal with a soldering gun- my best advise is NOT to do anything if they are of sentimental value- if there is no value, try it, and you lose nothing- and get a set of real binos for observation
 
Inexpensive binos

As a sales rep for Celestron I have a great many sample pair that I have in my inventory and every couple of years the company changes model styles. So let me know weather you would like 8 or 10 power and for not too much cash you'll be into a demo pair. FS
