Misfire with my T/C Encore!

just came back form the range and my encore was misfiring, about 9 out of 20 shots. I had pull the trigger 3 times on 6 rounds for it to fire. I was using rem ammo with my 270win barrel and the same happened when i had the 223 barrel, but the 223 works fine with federal ammo. Maybe it just doesn't like rem ammo. looking for your 2 cents

do you have a hammer extension on it??? Cheap and easy fix is to contact mike bellm from bellm t/c and order his 72 lb hammer spring. Around 10.00, easy to change out. Never had a mis-fire after installing the stronger spring.

After the first misfire I would have done the safety wait, and then ejected the cartridge and checked on the condition of the primer to see if it was dented at all. That's the first place to start IMHO.

If they have a good dent in them after the first hit then I would try different brand of ammo to rule out the possibility that the ones misfiring could be duds.

If there is not dent then or a weak one then you may have a hammer/firing pin or weak spring problem.

i have a hammer extension, all the primers had reasonable dents, all the rounds fired.

I'll go with a different brand of ammo, I was thinking of doing that before I started this thread

You might have extra head space. Its either due to the hardly strong enough hammer spring or excess head space. Remove the barrel and drop a round in the chamber see if its flush or it sits inside. Do like what mentioned in the second post check out his web site and do some reading. I had a few miss fires with new rem brass but now I do not with the once fired stuff. I also have put the stronger spring is as well.

I bet it's the spring - why would someone sell upgrade stronger springs?

There are a couple of other upgrade parts available for this gun but I can't remember what they are.

I have a T/C Encore Pro Hunter with a 300 WM barrel and a M/L 50 cal one. Never had any problems with either and I do have the hammer extender.

Get rid of the hammer extension or change the hammer spring. This is a common problem with hammer extensions.

if i take off the hammer extension, i would have to buy higher rings. I can't pull back the hammer without one

Then get the bigger spring. Sound like an easy upgrade. Avoiding Remington is always good advice, ammo, guns whatever. Good luck.

Your expectations are too high if you want to own a remington.

Might be worth a closer look at the ammo. My father had issue with his 270 ammo, the primer was seated a fraction too deep. The firing pin would dimple the primer, but the round would not fire. Granted, these were reloads he got with the gun. Worth a quick check for you perhaps?
