Anyone been having misfires with the CCI 450 Magnum small rifle primers? I've been running into quite a few that just won't go off with only a very light indentation from the firing pin. Even the ones that fired show a light firing pin strike. I've been told that the metal in the cup is about .003 thicker than Federals.

Which make

of firearm?

Also did you possibly have a prior pierced primer and there is a piece of the primer cup in the hole that the firing pin protruds out off?

I have yet to have a misfire with a CCI 450 primers.

The cup is definitely thicker then most brands - why they show 'no pressure signs' better then most.

If you are only getting a light dent in the primer, the firing pin/action is at fault.

Take the bolt out of the action and drop the cocking sear. See how far the firing pin extends out the bolt face. Should be 40 to 60 thou (just confirm specs with manf of action). Check to see if the tip is not chipped.

As was said, there might be a piece of junk hanging up the pin - maybe taking the bolt apart for cleaning/lubing is not a bad idea.

I have had no issues with igniting 450's but I am also using 'hunting actions'.

I use the CCI 450 exclusively for reloading .204 Ruger (because of the thicker cups). It has performed very well, with no misfires.

I'm have the problem with my Swindlehurst rebarreled to 6BR.....I've taken the bolt apart multiple times, adjusted spring tension polished all mating surfaces, checked the bolt barrel with a light to look for any misplaced chunks of primer cups. Sear on the Jewell trigger is free and not sticking, some over travel on the trigger. Firing pin is protruding .064 from the bolt face. I even replaced the firing pin spring with one 3/4" longer.

At Vokes during the Regional shoot she never missed a beat although I was having some problems previously during my practice sessions. I'm now trying Federal Match GM205M and so far 100% success.

Got to have something that shoots for the Frosty Farky....GO TEAM OKANAGAN.

Hi Cliff,

I have used literally tens of thousands of CC450s and never had a primer misfire. Headspace ok? I know about that rifle and it certainly SHOULD be.

As for the team Okanagan nonsense, the Kamloops Myoclonic Jerks will most certainly clean your clocks and leave you begging for a jug of "Red Devil".

Cliff

Be careful about pizzzzing off those Jerks from Kamloops. They really are Myoclonic:runaway:. During the 1st four days in August they flinched a bunch of V Bulls and managed to squeak out a team win. The truth is stranger than fiction.;)
