Mismatched Revolers

I'll echo what fredfiset and Alex McKr are saying. CAS folks are about the friendliest, generous and sharing men, women and kids you can imagine.
I have loaned my SAAs, shotgun, rifle indeed my entire rig with holsters, to introduce new, interested people to CAS.

With the draconian measures introduced in the little boy's temper tantrum, solely aimed legal handgun owners, (while sparing his supporters around Jane and Finch etc.) caring individuals and clubs are looking at loaning SAAs to those without to allow them to shoot a stage or even the entire match.

We are considering the supply the revolvers and holsters as a loan, while on the range shooting the stage(s). The shooter would supply their own SASS approved rifle, shotgun and ammunition.
Another thought is to allow double action revolvers to be used, provided they are used single action.
In this manner, we can continue to offer the Cowboy Action Experience until we can vote the current party out of office and get the ban on LEGAL handgun transfer and registration overturned.

An aside about unintended consequences: I used the $$$ received from the sale of the target handguns, I don't use often enough, to finish maxing out my CPC donation for 2022 and I have now fully maxed out my donation for 2023.

Here's hoping for a spring election.

By the way: I'm a FORMER Liberal.

Infidel29:
I'm unsure where you are in Alberta, but there are SASS affiliated CAS posses at Vermilion - Felix McSquibly 780-581-5286; Granum - Southwest Trapper 403-687-2284 and Leduc - Alberta Jayhawk 780-977-5977
There are also SASS posses in BC and Saskatchewan.
There are likely some non SASS affiliated posses in the area as well, but I am not aware of them.

infidel29: Just a follow up to Cold Lake Kid's post: Saskatchewan Association of Wild West Shooters(SAWWS). Great bunch of folks.

Range is a few minutes west of Saskatoon. Grounds have plenty of space for dry camping. Full details regarding matches, etc., on the SAWWS facebook page. Definitely worth the trip.

Al

The site also contains links to other Sask. clubs

infidel29: This you tube site will give you an excellent overview of cowboy action shooting: JEDi TV youtube (jeditv youtube works, too). Best cowboy action oriented site, on you tube. At least, in my opinion.

Hosted by: Cowboy action shooter Jed I Knight. Videos are action filled. Best of all: video footage taken at matches contains detailed stage descriptions, multiple shooting angles...taken from both shooter* and spectator perspective, Jed and other competitors and how they approach various stages, etc.

All highly informative and a great learning tool for newcomers to the sport(And even us old hands, who still like to learn something new). I really like breaking down the various stages and practicing them at training sessions.

Viewers are drawn right into the action, throughout. Closest thing to being at an actual match. Delivers a far clearer idea of cowboy action competition, than most other you tube sites. Best part of all(at least for me)...really showcases the fun and camaraderie of cowboy action.

Jed's site also contains plenty of information on various guns, cartridge/shot shell loading, gun cleaning (Jed specializes in black powder), clothing, gun leather.....plus, plenty of other highly useful information. All geared toward cowboy action shooting.

Highly recommended viewing.

Al

ps: *For those cowboy shooters wishing to shoot Gunfighter category,,,,the revolver close up action views Jed features in many videos(from over the sights perspective), are a great way to see and understand his technique. A master class on how it's done....in my view.

Oh good. Was looking for decent YouTube sites to follow. I am new to shooting revolvers so hopefully he's got one on the basics.

There is SASS rules and then there is Canada club rules. That is like government rules, we is a long way from the office and they can not see what we are doing from there.

infidel29: This may be what you're looking for.

A good instructional site for newcomers to cowboy action: Dead Eye-you tube . Hosted by elite cowboy action competitor: Dead Eye Dillard.

Covers the basics plus, offers solid tips on skill development geared to just about any level of the sport. Definitely worth looking into.

By far the best way to learn the ins and outs of the sport is by competing in matches. But, this info will at least give you a leg up. One thing worth mentioning: Everyone develops their own unique style.. It serves you no purpose to try and copy someone else's techniques exactly.

Instead: Glean what you can from observing videos, competitors, etc. Adapt or modify what you've learned in ways that work best for you. Then, make them your own.

ps: deadeye cowboy action youtube works, too

You'll be able to use a .45-70 round in your gunbelt to separate the .45 Colt and .44-40 rounds just like John Wayne did.

Cept'n John used his to catch in his back pocket so his gun belt didn't "slide off his narrower than the rest of im a$$" during that "wobble hip" walk of his. LOL

Big ol' John also carried 32-20's in his belt for the same reason not as much weight as a belt full of .45's
