The Rocky Mountain Outlook just tweeted this "K-country RCMP and conservation officers search for missing hunter - provincial bear response team on site due to grizzly sow and cub in area - more to come"

There are a few updates on another forum. They found his pack, and rifle (a few hundred yards away).Doesn't look good. Prayers going out for him and his family....

From the Calgary Herald:

A search team has been dispatched to Kananaskis Country to look for a Calgary hunter who has been reported overdue by his family.

The man apparently went hunting near the Picklejar Creek Trail on Saturday morning and didn’t return home as expected.

“We had an overdue hunter reported (Sunday) morning,” Const. Virgil Bitz of the Kananaskis RCMP said Monday. “We began with a ground search and eventually, by 1 p.m. yesterday afternoon, we brought out a helicopter.

“We did not locate him and search crews are still out there.”

Bitz couldn’t immediately confirm the man’s condition, but he said there’s a grizzly bear with a cub in the area.

As a result, he said there are officers from Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation — as well as the provincial bear team — helping with the search.

“We have conservation officers and public safety officers out there,” confirmed department spokeswoman Jill Sawyer, noting there are eight officers helping the Mounties.

They searched until dark Sunday, but called it off when it got dark due to the presence of the bear and her cub.

In addition, there are now bear closure signs and yellow tape marking off the area.

Picklejar Lakes is in one of Kananaskis Country’s 39 provincial recreation areas, where hunting big game such as deer, elk and black bears is allowed. It’s illegal to hunt grizzly bears in Alberta due to their threatened status.

More details on the missing hunter are expected to be released by RCMP later this afternoon.

You guys have a provincial bear response team? Never heard of that before....

Hope they find the guy safe and sound.

Just caught the news coming home, some thing about a missing hiker in Banff, but nothing about this guy. Suspicious side of me says they want to keep the bear angle quiet. Wouldn't be the first sheep hunter to pay the ultimate price.

While hunting alone for sheep west of Pincher Creek in Southern Alberta, Adams was mauled by a grizzly bear. Adams was found by two other hunters, and died when rescuers were removing him from the area

Years ago I spent a week searching for a lost hunter near Otter Lake Quebec, it still haunts me that his remains were only found a year later. His son was only born a couple of days before he went missing, the poor guy only saw his son once. In case his boy is reading this, we really tried our best, I'm sorry.

When my friend John Dugan, the carpenter,
left this world...he seemed
in a terrible hurry. He wasn't, of course.
Almost no one is. But he barely took time
to say goodbye,
"I'll just put these tools away,"
he said. Then, "So Long." And hurried
down the hill to his pickup. He waved, and
I waved. But between here and Dungeness,
where he used to live, he drifted
over the center line...
