Missing Deer Head

As a taxidermist I endeavour to get work out the door as soon as possible. Alas I'm at the mercy of tanneries also. Somthing that should take 6 months has dragged to a year something that took a year dragged to two years. Sad but it has happened. In your case I would highly recommend recovering your antlers. To be honest, your cape is probably long long gone on another head or it is so freezer burned it's beyond working with. If the taxidermist will not give you your antlers your next stop is to your local fish and wildlife office. They will get Somthing done. If perchance you get a CO who does not want to do his job the next stop is the court office where you will need to do a small claims court challenge. That might motivate him a tad more. I became a taxidermist as I was fed up with the ridiculous turn around times my taxidermist was doing along with choice bits of fur disappearing. Best of luck

i really hope it works out well for you. this is solid advice

ask around next time and you can get good feed back before you send your once in a lifetimes off.

sucky deal these guys are the worst.

Does not surprise me in the least ! I've only had the same problems with every taxidermy I have ever dealt with in Ontario. Back in 1995 I completed the first Wild Turkey Grandslam in Canada. I wanted every specie full body mounted. The hardest bird to take was an Osceola from Florida. I gave a guy in Ohio two birds to have mounted in 95 and 2 years later was told the freezer was unplugged and they went bad ( you got to be ####tin me )

I once again went and killed another. I already have 3 of the 4 done so I gave this one to a guy in Ontario and that was 2008. It was a promise agreement to have it done in a 6 month turn around. Well to this day I have not got it back and have heard the same bull #### from him for 3 years now. I've gave up, the novelty has wore off, really have lost any desire for it and any Taxidermy there is out there.

Sorry to see that this is happening to others, because it only gives Everyone the same name...

I might have missed something here, but have you at least not demanded to see your rack? I'll bet he's misplaced it or something and doesn't have the guts to tell you.

I've dealt with quite a few different taxidermists over the years.
-if they guarantee 6 months turnaround, walk away, unless they do their own tanning.
-if they don't have a secretary that handles paperwork, etc., walk away.
-if they do taxidermy as a sideline, walk away, as any work will only be done in spare time, which could be never.
