Missing Deer Head

Sorry but after 7 years its not very likely he has it still.... I seriously doulbt the hide would be much good at this point anyway... Go ask for it back and except him to not be able to find it...
Best of luck

My taxidermist has my work done before the next hunting season if it is something simple like antlers mounted on a plaque 2-3 months is the norm for completed work!

I would be demanding my trophy back and if he has some how misplaced it or sold it I would be taking him to small claims court!

That was a good read, it sounds like Clarence has a few problems keeping him from finishing his work in a timely fashion.

I had Clarence K. do a Mule Deer, Bighorn Sheep and a Bear rug for me in the 80's....back then they took only about 6 months to get done and they are still in good condition now. Sounds like things have gone downhill since then.

I had this happen with a bearskin rug... dropped it off within a week of being shot, and heard excuse after excuse for 2 years. Finally I went and demanded it back at which time I took it to another taxidermist and had had it back in 6 months.

I have had a lot of work done and generally the turnaround time is about 6 months, maybe a bit more for someone who is really busy. Good luck getting your stuff back, what a shame.

I had a taxidermist call me two years after I dropped off a Canada Goose to tell me it was ready. One year longer than promised so I played the same game with him until he was about going nuts.It was hilarious hearing the frustration in his voice when I kept promising next week or next month........LOL. I made him wait two years just as he had done to me before I picked it up and paid for it. They can't sell it to recoupe anything, it's illegal so it takes up valuable space. I am betting he has never forgotten?!!

That's not true, they can and will sell mounts, it's perfectly legal.

I will argue that point with you until you can show me proof of that. The taxidermist who did the mount for me was a C.O and was fit to be tied as he told me several times "I cannot sell it to recover my expenses as it is illegal to sell it, would you please come get your bird?" I also had a friend who ran a bait shop and he had purchase several mounted sunfish and rock bass mounts done as pen holders. They were very nice little desk ornaments. Well he got charged as did the taxidermist he purchased them from.In the end they both ended up paying $8000 apiece to a certain lake (which shall remain nameless for obvious geographical reasons) conservation fund to forgo any more court proceedings. The fish were neither taken illegally or from the body of water the fund was allocated to.

Perhaps you have different laws under your wildlife act, but I know for a fact that taxidermists here in MB can sell completed work if you don't pay, just like you can legally sell your mount. Many think that it's under the same classification as selling wildlife parts but this isn't so. As far as the DNR is concerned, the royalties are paid with the license and that's why you can sell the antlers, etc. What you're not allowed to sell is the meat. In regard to a taxidermist, this falls under the similar laws as an auto repair shop where a customer doesn't pay. He can sell it for what you owe, anything above that has to go to the owner.

Why is this even a thread? Go get your property back, we can't help you

-----"We Cant Help You!"---- Thats not really what he was looking for!

The least WE can do is offer some support! Lol!

I have been in the same boat as well. For at least 6 years!
I managed to get a realy nice Muley with my bow. My muley happens score more than high enough for entry into Pope and Young. The taxidermist keeps promising to get it done, and I just dont have the time to keep hounding him!
I am planning to pick it up next week done or not. The taxidermist is suffering from depression I believe.

Geez. My taxidermist does it full time. With my elk he told me to bring it by his place in two months. It was done within two weeks. My whitetail was closer to two months. These times were all acceptable. It helps to use a guy who does it for a living.

Got a cell phone? Got a spare 30 seconds every day? Call him, leave a message. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I have Been there done that MANY times!

My life got very busy for a few years, and it wasn't that important to me to push someone who is suffering from depression. I met him one day a couple of years ago, and "HE" approached me to tell me he hand not forgotten about it. I could see he was not quite the same person I knew before. Now that I have a family, my time is limited. and my interest in the record book deer has diminished some.

Maybe next week I will make the 1 hour trip to see him at his home.
