it is probably 3/8" diameter which you can check from the diameter of the ramrod pipes. You can make one from straight grained preferably oak or hickory doweling and making or buying a metal tip for it or as a last resort a .38 shell

The wood ramrod is the weakest link in any ML configuration and most prone to failure. Get a synthetic CVA replacement off Ebay that you can cut to length. Failing that, you can buy them direct from CVA. That's what I did with my Kentucky and every subsequent ML in my arsenal.
The main thing with a wooden rod is to never put your hand more than 6 or 8" from the muzzle; if you try pushing the ball down in one long push with your hand at the very end, you run a big risk of the rod breaking and spearing your hand. I have used wooden rods for over 25 years and while I have broken a few because of poor grain, I have never speared my hand. I don't particularly like the rubbery synthetic rods because they are too flexible and worry about abrasion from the fiberglass ones.

i keep my hard wood an brass ramrod's in the closet and take my delrin rod's to the range... saves wear an tear on em and you dont cringe if you need to use a ram rod puller cause you get stuck pulling a tight patch out... but thats just me.... synthetic rod's are alot harder to get a grip on then wood tho so six of one half dozen of another....

Brother broke his wooden ramrod, and now uses a doubled up arrow shaft. One shaft inside the other. Ends on an arrow shaft are the same thread as the the attachments being used, and it has a cool camo finish. Works well and lots of "cool" comments at the range
