There was no such thing as a 'tanker' K98 either. There was a carbine made for mountain troops though.
Now write this out 100 times, "Armoured types do not and did not use rifles. There is no space in a tank for a rifle."

Well, I was a Sherman "tanker" back in the early to mid 60's and I know for a fact you're right from just a practical point of view.

I could never get that "freakin" FNC1 they made me qualify on through the turret CC cuploa, so they gave me a Sten SMG first, then quickly upgraded all of us to Sterling SMG's and Browning 9mm Hi-powers as personal weapons. :D

To be honest, I couldn't possibly see any kind of a carbine (even the M1) being issued to tankers. At least the Sterling's butt folded under and I could get it through the hatch, but still bashed by teeth on it most of the time. ;)

Badger

The experimental short M-1 rifles were being considered for airborne use.
Where the "tanker" business came from is anyone's guess. Probably some marketing ploy, although you would think airborne would be a more exciting selling point.
Just who started calling the No. 5 rifle the "jungle carbine"? The name has stuck like, well, you know....

Fnc1??

Yeah! I certainly would not expect any tank crewman to have to hump one of those full sized FNC1's down the hatch:eek: bloody big and heavy. Tuff though. They sure took a #### kicking and still grouped decent on the range.

K98ACTION, I don't think anyone mocked anybody but the company "Mitchells Mausers", who deserve it.

Have you read any of their marketing materials?

I'm sure their guns are serviceable, but their 'stories' behind them are ridiculous.

well thanks to everyone but like i said and a few on here were able to understand my question of just being intereste in a canadian distributor of mitchell products thanks to those who did there best to understand my question
