ok, silly idea - are the tops of the Norincos interchangeable? specifically, is it possible to just swap the Commander top (slide, barrel, etc) onto the double-stack NP30 frame to get a double-stack (fat grip, high cap) commander? (and then, use the commander frame with the double-stack's top to effectively have a gov't)

The dust cover on the Commander frame is a tad shorter than a regular Gov't frame, IIRC, so you may have a gap.

Then you may have to shorten the dust cover on the double stack frame for the Commander slide.

I don't have a Commander to compare right now, just recalling from memory.

Basically, the short answer is "you can't get there from here".... ;) :p

hmm, that's kinda too bad. i thought that the Gov't and Commander were originally based on the same frame, just with different uppers. damn...

They are the same frame EXCEPT the front dust cover of the Commander frame is ~ 3/4" shorter so the shorter slide fits it. If you put the full length slide on a commander frame it may function but it will look funny. Putting a commander slide on a full length frame will leave a 3/4" gap where you would be able to view the recoil spring & likely have functioning issues.
