Mk 1 Singer rearsight - adjusting screw issue

My Mk 1 Singer backsight (SM41) no longer clicks when I adjust elevation. Is it possible to fix, or should I buy another one.

The little detent is probably frozen. Try some penetrating oil. I suppose disassembly could be possible; probably have to make tiny punches.
 
Be very careful when disassembling, the little ball bearing that makes the click will rocket out and you’ll never find it, ask me how I know! Best to disassemble in a ziplock bag and reassemble in it too.
 
Take the sight off the rifle and soak it in a small container filled with Diesel fuel.

Soak it for 24 hours, take it out a few times to work the screw.

Blow it dry with compressed air. This will also flush out the crud.
 
Go slow, and be very careful not to lose the ball that makes the click. To remove the pin Ive used a nail as a punch. I’ve had sights where the pin was locked up solid, in those cases I soak the entire sight assembly in WD-40 overnight to loosen everything up

As per a recomendation above I will be doing the disassembly in a ziplock bag.
 
Getting the ball in is a pain in the butt but there are some good threads out there that describe the process. I dissembled and cleaned one that wasn’t working well and it is much better now
 
There was a guy on ebay last year selling all the little parts for those milled sights. Somewhere in the UK cant remember his username. I had a sight with the adjusting dial knob broken off and I found the parts on eBay. The guy had a little schematic posted as well so I could see what exactly I needed. Just saying in case you need some parts. I'm trying to remember what I used to get that tiny pin out.
 
A small screw driver or nail will work. If you really really want the correct tool I’m sure an appropriate punch exists
 
Ok my sight clicks again, I did not need to disassemble it. I noticed that the tiny hole in the lefthand side of the sight looked like it had a pin in it. I figured this was the end of the piston so I tapped on it with a small nail and this freed up the piston.
 
Ok next issue with my sight. The adjusting screw can be moved up and down about a half a millimeter, which results in the aperture slide moving half a millimeter up and down. Is this normal or is it something that needs to be fixed?
 
I never noticed that on mine but I just checked and low and behold mine also moves about a millimeter. I’ve never noticed it affecting anything or shifting POA. In fact mine has some spring too it. Meaning when I push on the screw the sight moves but when I relieve the pressure it springs back. I’m guessing this is normal play in the design
