I replced the wood on my old sporter over the weekend - it sure looks better now! But I noticed for the first time that the trigger (pined to the guard) is able to move/fall forward (rather loosly) when assembled.

Is this normal?

There is some slack as in any two stage trigger when you are pulling the trigger, and everything else works normally.

Since the trigger is pinned to the guard, any difference in the thickness of the stock between the receiver and the trigger guard is going to change the trigger pull considerably. It will take some fitting to get the trigger pull to be back to what it was before the refit. This problem was fixed later on by hanging the trigger off of the receiver.

If everything works fine and the bedding is good, I would just leave it personally.

I find that about 8 out of 10 times, the trigger pull goes out the window when you change wood. You're lucky! Them retarded Long Branch triggerguards made from cheap stampings are the worst. They sometimes change the pull drastically just from taking the rifle apart and putting it together again.
