Just got a Mk1 sight for my Enfield. the micrometer sight doesn't exactly click the way it should. is it possible to take it apart and clean it/ replace the spring or somehow fix it?. has anybody ever done this before? any help, info, links would be great!

kroil eh? i'll try that. I really hate tedious work. but I hate things that don't work properly even more! the micrometer rotates. it just doesn't click. you figure the kroil will brake down some gunk in the spring?

I had a mk 1 micrometer off an Indian refurb and it seemed to have your problem. I oiled/solvented the piss out of it and scrubbed the threads with a brass brush.

Clickety click, problem solved.

You have to knock out the little pin just under the milled head, which allows the elevating screw to come out. This may be hard to shift; some just won't move before you bend the punch.

so I had the sight sit in methyl ethyl ketone overnight to remove any gunk that might be near the spring. better but - NO JOY -. so I put the sight in a clamp. and punched the pin. and found the problem. the spring was almost completely collapsed with no "spring" to it at all. I replaced the spring. and put it back together and oil it slightly. works great!

during this whole procedure (which wasn't really all that bad) I didn't see no stinkin ball!

after i posted that last comment. I noticed the micrometer wasn't clicking up very easily. I figured it was probably the missing little ball. I took it apart again and this time found a small roller bearing, took it apart to steal a ball bearing. then put back it back together (not so easy this time) I had to cut the spring down to fit the ball bearing.
Now the plunger (part 11 above) sticks out a mm from the left side of the sight. click, click, click.....LOVE that new sound!
