Mk2 extraction problem

Savage mk2 failure to extract with CCI. Seems to only be with cci. The problem is that the shoots it well. It's infrequent. Typically just racking the bolt again will clear it. Had the problem so I strip, cleaned and light oiled the bolt. Was happy for 30 rounds until it started happening again. Any thing I should look at?
 
Could be weak extractors spring. Should be easily fixed by getting another spring and place it over the original spring. This is how many users fixed unreliable extraction issues.
 
Yes, new spring over the original spring. Will make the extractor stiffer and not slide over the case rim easily when extracting the case from chamber.

Things like cleaning the chamber and double clipping the extractor spring are just band-aids that do not address the root cause. Savage does not cut the extractor slot close enough to the chamber mouth, or there is some misalignment of the extractor head in the slot pushing it out too far from the case rim.





Notice how CZ cuts the extractor slot, it's practically a razor's edge at the chamber mouth. The slot lip actually dips slightly lower than the breech face. This ensures that the extractor claw can get right in there and has full grip on the rim.



The solution is to remove some material from the extractor slot, allowing the extractor claw to get full grip on the rim. You know the casing isn't truly "stuck", as you describe racking the bolt a second time usually clears it. Next time it happens, before you rack the bolt a second time, try picking out the casing with your fingernail or a small flat screwdriver. If it comes out with little resistance, you know I'm right that the extractor claw simply physically cannot get a grip on the rim, and you need to mod the extractor slot.
 
Contact Savage Canada.. they sent me a kit with new extractors and spring. The new springs was much stiffer then the factory one. Has worked great but I just doubled up cause, why not. Had to enlarge the slot a bit on the 2nd spring.

The new spring made it stiffer and operation has been great. Doubling up makes it stiffer still and seems to function just fine.

I am very happy with the operation once fixed

Rabid is absolutely correct. Putting the second spring is a band-aid to the problem. It fixed the symptom without solving the problem. The downside is it increased the force needed to manipulate the bolt.

I did some very fine modifications to the extractor slots and it completely resolved the problem without the need for the second spring. Having said that it isn't a procedure to be under taken lightly. Removing too much I can imagine would have very bad consequences.
 
There isn't a problem with my extractor slot in my barrel. The issue was the original factory spring going loose. The replacement was much tighter and it worked great over the year I had it.

Today, I just put on a 2nd one to see what would happen. Firms things up more. Function is great... no addn effort in closing/cycling.

Had this happen last time i went out, didnt seem to matter what brand i was shooting either. Something to look into, thanks.

When you were cleaning the bolt did you remove the spring band, extractor, cartridge guide and firing pin? I ask because mine recently started having this problem. Just removing the parts, cleaning and reassembling solved it (even though the slots did not look dirty.) I got a new extractor kit from Savage, but so far no need to install it.
