Do all mark4 scopes have a mk4 logo on the bottom? How do you distinguish between a vx111 m3(which I've never actually seen, only heard of)and a mk4 LR/T m3 if buying used? I just bought a mk4 on the ee and am surprised to find no markings other than the leupold symbol on he parralex knob, and the made in USA underneath. Is this a mk4 or a vx3 or are they the same scope with two names based on date of manufacture? It looks like the mk4lr/t m3 on the leupold web site. thanks for any info

All current Mark 4 scopes have the original gold ring around the the outside of the objective lens blacked out and stamped into this ring will be the Mark 4 designation along with the maginification and objectice dimensions. Only the original fixed power Mark 4's (10X and 16 X) have the Mark 4 designation and description etched in large letters on the bottom of the scope. The original fixed power models are different from the variable models in the MR/T and LT/T models that are VX-III 's with different features (mildot, TMR, exposed target knobs ect.) The Mark 2's are VX-II models again with different features. I'm not sure what you refer to as the VX-III m3? Earlier Vari X III models were availble with mildots and larger target knobs but were not described as Mark 4's until a few years ago. The products in my opinion are the same, just now call Mark 4's for marketing purposes. Phil.

thanks, very helpful. It is in fact marked mark4 on that ring. It is barely viseable, untill you have it up by a light. thanks again
