Like the title says, I have a Savage MKII that shoots 2" groups and 20 yards. I dont know what's wrong, I got the rifle new and have shot 1000+ rounds through it. It was clean as a whistle when I started. I can guarantee it was not user error because I have a rock solid rest. Is this something common with the rifle?

More info needed. Scoped? If so, rings, mounts, optic, etc? What ammo? Have you tried lots of different brands and costs of ammo? Sorry if I make it sound like you are new to this, but these are the answers everyone will want to know. I have found ammo choice could make cheap 22s shoot that way. Try CCI Standard Velocity, usually at CDN Tire.

Sorry, I have a Bushnell 3-9x connected with rings on a weaver rail. I have shot Stingers, Golden Bullets, Yellow Jackets, and Federal. The ones I was shooting with today was Federal 40 grain. Sure it has a lead bullet, but the build quality seemed 5x better than golden bullets.

I use a Bushnell 3-9x The crown is clean with no obstructions. No it has not always done this. I dont know if the cold had something to do with it, because last summer is shot straight.

If it has irons, take the scope off to try that way. Or try another scope you know works. Mounting and dismounting scopes was a pain before I got my Fatwrench in lbs tq wrench, now quit simple and quick.

Yep, double check scope, sounds obvious but ya never know. Also double check action screws are tight. Your ammo isn't known for great accuracy, but just about anything should shoot 1-hole/clover leafs at 20 yards... A Savage should shoot under 1" at 50 yards as well. Since it hasn't always done this, what have you been doing for cleaning? It may be incredibly fouled and require a deep clean with JB Bore Paste.

A few years back a few Mark II's slipped through QC without full rifling... check the barrel to ensure that the rifle extends the full length.

Have you given it a good cleaning recently? I don’t clean the chamber and barrel until accuracy starts to suffer, I periodically will run a brush down the barrel at the range if it looks really dirty but not a full clean. Maybe you need to clean it and check the action screws and rings to make sure nothing is loose.

I had action screw loosen just a hair one time (only about 1/16 or so of a turn) and rifle went from shooting sub m.o.a groups to 1 1/2- 2" groups. I would also try shooting cci standard velocity ammo as mentioned earlier, or any cci ammo for that matter other than stingers. I've gotten best accuracy shooting cci's in every 22 I've had, except 1. Never had much luck accuracy wise with federal ammo for some reason.

I took off my scope and am going to try and zero my iron sights, I had to take off the rear sight to attach my scope to I have to re-attach it. Here is a picture of the action, and the rifling while i'm doing that **Image and video linking functions will be enabled after you have contributed more to the forum**

Appearently I cant add photos yet, so I will just try and zero the irons

Alright, I just got back in from using Irons, and after a few shots there was a pattern of less than 1" I have never dropped my gun, or scope So I assume some screw is making the glass bend slightly and not shoot right.

My Savage B22 came with very loose action screws (rail to action). Worked great for the first 200 rounds, then went completely out of wack. A little Loctite fixed everything for me.

Best of luck.

Good to find out the gun is fine. The mounting might have been loose too. Maybe carefully remount and try once more before junking the scope.
