Hey guys, it's time for me to pick your brains once again on the Mk III Ross!

I have a rifle with a non matching bolt and a no go guage but I'm not sure how to go about checking to see if my headspace is okay. It's pertty easy to check a Lee Enfield, but the rotating bolt set up on the Ross is so different I'm not sure how to proceed.

Thanks for the help!

The Ross factory had this complex way of checking it. Not available to me, so I used my regular Field gauges, both SAAMI and military.

You just slide the gauge in there, under the extractor, and push the bolt ahead, and see how far it goes. Then do it with the gauge not there, and see if it goes further.
As long as it does...

Gently does it.

As far as I have read, straight pull rifles aren't suseptible to headspace problems. Ross bolts weren't originally serialed to the receiver for this reason if I recall. There are numbers on bolts, but as far as I have ever seen they were inspector stamps. Someone will slap me if I am mistaken.

From a safety perspective, you are right in trying to make sure it is all good.

Here is a thread I found on with a question on headspacing and a Ross:

I'm not sure if there's anything else in this manual posted as a sticky in the Ross Rifle Forum that will help you or not, but just in case ... here you go .. :)
