You may not be aware of this site - www.roderuscustom.tzo.com. There is a blackpowder forum there, with a loooong thread detailing the construction of a .50 cal. percussion double rifle. Chap makes just about every part in the rifle, apart from the barrel blanks. Excellent photos of all parts, all stages of construction. Photos are sized so that viewing the thread on dialup is not an ordeal.

I was impressed.
Makes my efforts seem rather inconsequential.
Don't know if you have seen Brockway's book on making ml cap and flint double guns using bl shotgun barrels. I've fitted plugs to a barrel set, and proof tested them. Have yet to order a pair of flintlocks. Have thought that a pair of L&Rs would work.
 
Certainly was not his first attemp at making a gun and he was very fast at this project. I could not build a kit in the time he built this rifle. There is a lot information in the thread
